It started with Bella, my neighbour dog. We where dogsitting her for a week and had to give her painkillers before each walk. She is 15 years old and at the end of life. I took a picture of her with my old Mamiya and made it with liquid light in the darkroom the way I work with old trees. I think it has the feeling of ” I’m here right now, but not for long”.
Henry is an old gentleman I made as a commission. I had only met him once six years ago, yet we were friends right away and he was eager to work with me. I wonder why dogs always feel safe with me, even stray dogs who human beings have treated really bad!? Maybe it’s as easy as this; I love dogs and they return it to me.
I’m looking forward to make more of these portraits.
