Video diptych 4 min. 20 years after the first video, Lady in Red is still cleaning. I look forward to 2036 –another 20 years– when I will have a triptych, a monument of never ending home work. When I made my first Lady in Red in 1996 I had read The Second Sex by Simone de Beauvoir, where she writes about immanent work as opposed to transcendent work. I wanted to transcend home work into a transcendent art work. Seeing the two videos side by side, they show not only the never ending work of cleaning, but also the aging body and the development of the home and the quality of the video image.
