Invited by Statens Konstråd (Public Art Agency Sweden) I made this sketch/model for Norra Stationsparken in the new Hagastaden in Stockholm. I won the commission, but had to change my work into something different, because this sketch is only one part of the artwork I suggested. The other part would be standing on the roof of one of the 14 stories buildings at this sqare. A huge mirror, inspired by the Ruijkan mirror in Norway, that follow the sun’s journey over the sky and always reflect the sun beams down to this spot on the ground. But it would require to much technical updates, so it wasn’t admitted.
The new Hagastaden will be the darkest living area, built in Sweden since the 1940ies when new regulations came, requesting distance between houses for light, air and outdoor activities. Since the Stockholm land prices have gotten increasingly expensive, architects don’t have to follow these regulations any more. I wanted to make a place that always had sun if it was shining, like the one in Rjuikan.
From above, in the apartments around this spot, the place look like a flower. I made test tiles of these variations of yellow and orange tiles in Lidköping porcelain factory. I wish I will find another place where I can make this work. The reflections in the spot is made by mirroring vertical surfaces. This part of Hagastaden is now estimated to be finished around 2027. Then I will do my new work called Solkult (Sun cult). It’s something quit different from En Plats i Solen and have steady mirrors reflecting the sun down there four times a year only. I will show the sketch here when we are closer to 2027…
